NAREB’s “House Then The Car” Program Aims to Educate Black Youth About Homeownership

By

The National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB) new program educates African-American youth on the importance of homeownership, financial skill, and the homebuying process. The campaign is titled '€œHouse Then The Car.'€ It aims to educate, empower and mobilize generations of Black millennials regarding wealth building. The program offers a pre-purchase counseling course for anyone interested in buying a home. It is designed to teach potential homebuyers about homeownership. It includes lessons on buying a home,  maintaining a home, and much more.  NAREB is a minority-led professional real estate association. It seeks to bring together real estate and business professionals from disadvantaged groups. Its mission is to promote housing democracy. They'€™ve worked to make fair housing available for all since 1947. The '€œHouse Then the Car'€ program is part of the Two Million New Black Homeowner Program. The program aims to succeed in closing the homeownership gap (the large discrepancy between white homeownership rates and black homeownership rates) in the United States.  Learn more about the '€œHouse Then The Car'€ program on their website. They provide a range of tools and resources to help with budgeting, credit and achieving homeownership. They have a FICO score estimator and a widget for finding assistance with the down payment. Overall, it'€™s a great way to get young Black people interested in homeownership and work to boost the black homeownership rate.
